William Ward on Creating Pathways for Future Leaders
“How can we build an ecosystem that gives people a path from working at McDonald's to working at Microsoft?” - William Ward, Founder and CEO of Flexie
Last Update
As Founder and CEO of Flexie, William Ward is on a mission to bring new opportunities to frontline workers by helping organizations recognize, reward, and retain the people who keep businesses functioning. His work is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: reliability, hard work, and stewardship should create opportunities for upward mobility.
Born in Liberia, William fled the war in West Africa and came to the United States as a young immigrant, an experience that gave him a deeply personal understanding of the challenges involved with building a life from the ground up. His journey from frontline work to corporate leadership shaped his perspective on economic opportunity and ultimately inspired the creation of Flexie.

Flexie is redefining how organizations connect with frontline talent. By helping employers identify dependable workers and creating pathways for individuals to build meaningful careers, Flexie is addressing one of the most important challenges facing today's workforce: creating systems that recognize potential, hard work, and reliability not based on their “credentials” but based on how they actually show up. At its core, Flexie is about creating opportunities for people who have traditionally been overlooked by existing systems.
These values closely align with what I believe.
Through my work with founders, executives, and emerging leaders, I have consistently advocated for leadership that prioritizes long-term impact over short-term gain.
My relationship with William began through Techstars. Over the years, that connection has evolved into an ongoing partnership grounded in mutual respect, leadership development, and a belief that sustainable change begins with people.
Today, the partnership between Faana and Flexie reflects a shared vision: building stronger communities by expanding access to opportunity. Our collaboration recognizes that lasting impact happens when individuals are given the tools, support, and pathways needed to reach their full potential. If you're building something that matters and looking for a partner in that work I’d love to connect and discuss what it means to be an Impact Member and other ways we can partner to connect talent with opportunity.
I invite you to watch our conversation with William, and other leaders in our Core Community, to learn from leaders who are helping redefine what opportunity can look like for the next generation of leaders.
