Hard Working People

What is a community if not a system of support? 

To be in community means to connect - the deep and real essence of what it means to be human.

A little girl sits on the side of the road, heading in her hands, bored and tired and waiting for her mama to finish flying her flag.

What does the day of hard work in the hot sun bring to them, I wonder. What is it that they really need? 

A few smiles and some waves. A people who are too busy to stop and learn about them. “I’ll come back to this” they say - too busy to be bothered with the ailments and sickness in our system. 

A collective exhausted by the reality of modern day America, and a people in passionate pursuit of a profit-fueled system. 

Where do our hearts go when we’re asleep, eating our lunches and rushing through the moments of our days? 

What is it that’s making up your day dreams these days? What about your nightmares? 

I dream of a day like today - one with the potential to turn around the unwell and broken American system.  

I think about Aly-buddy all the time - and I imagine her in places I’ve never been. I think about her spirit and the purpose for her life - what is it that she is here to do if not to live?

Abundant and joyful and bright - this is the way she is. Or, this is the way she always was, when I think of her being little.

I imagine her this way still, forcing myself to day dream a little. A vision I choose to hold instead of the one that is real.
